Is Pentecostalism the Religion of the 21st Century?

As our society changes around us, people’s yearning to understand and experience spirituality remains one of the few constants. What continues to change however, is the way we as humans strive for spiritual understanding. The Pentecostal movement and its success is evidence that people are currently eager to express their faith, however not to change their way of life. The Pentecostal religion is compliant with this as it allows people to practice their religion in a modern contemporary setting. By making worship fun they are attracting people who would not normally be engrossed in religion. The Pentecostal church has also allowed people to maintain materialistic philosophies that are used as a driving force in a capitalistic society. This again highlights how people want to experience religion, however aren’t prepared to be compliant with the added extras and rules that come with traditional faith…

Religion is not something that will ever die out completely. As people and their motivations evolve its relevance in society will always vary.  I believe that a person’s need to understand their place in the world, and gain answers to unanswerable questions is evidence that religion, in some form or another will always have a place in society. However, as is made evident by the Pentecostal movement, religion may need to evolve along with society in order to ensure its constant success and survival.
